Early 2008 Interests

I'm not sure how the new 2008 market will open and close by the end of this week, but if you read some of the headlines they are not looking positive. Concerns are still brewing over the housing market and financials. I believe these issues will still linger for the near future, so I will do my best to steer clear. Stocks that I would be interested in getting long in are: National Oilwell Varco (NOV), Turkcell Iletisim (TKC), Life Cell Corp (LIFC), Hologic INC (HOLX), and Dynamic Materials (BOOM). Stocks that I would be interested in shorting are: Team INC (TISI), Blue Coat Systems (BCSI), and Open Text (OTEX).

Dead Cat Bounce

Anyone else agree? The U.S. pre-market is scheduled to open higher today, which truly means nothing, as we have seen over the past few months due to the extreme volatility. The rest of the world was down today, yet I think we will close up today, and gap down again on Thursday. I am looking to get long on a few positions if they drop down into my price target. I will look to get these filled today, but most likely they will not get filled until Thursday. Of course, I may be completely of base in my analysis, but time will tell. Stocks on my watchlist still include the telecom plays I posted about earlier, with a few others like: RIO and BOOM.

Stock Trades

Well today was a day I could sit and play with my son and do a few trades. I found a really cool website a few weeks ago, which mixes trading with humor, so check it out http://suckmynasdaq.com/. Anyhow I was trading today and picked up some shares of Akamai Technologies INC (AKAM) http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=akam&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=0. Got in at $32.81 and cashed out approximately 1 hour later up over 1 point.

In addition, I also picked up some shares of Amtrust Financial Services Inc (AFSI) http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?c=afsi at $17.25 and $17.27 and it went down a bit today, but will continue to watch. A few other notables that I continue to watch are POT, NVDA, and BOOM. Not sure how the market is going to fair in the next couple of days but time will tell. If anyone out there finds this stuff interesting, useful, or just happened to come across it please leave a response or link to other places. Tks, Justin
