Mexican Cement

I was looking around at FINVIZ.com and spotted a stock I invested in awhile back. The company is Cemex (CX). I was looking at the chart and was seeing a inverted head-and-shoulders pattern beginning to develop. I may look to take a position in this shortly.

Taking Profits

Nice move today across the markets, in which the Dow crossed over the 8,000 level. I wanted to thin out some of my portfolio, so I closed out my entire position of CEMEX S.A.B (CX) at $7.61 for a 6.43% profit. I sold a April 15 call on Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (RIO) for $0.80, and as a complete speculative play, I picked up some shares of Ford Motor Co. (F) at $2.94. I think everyone agress the auto industry is bound to consolidate, so I'm taking a stab at who I think will survive.

Doubled Up

I took advantage of the downturn yesterday to double-up on my CEMEX (CX) position at $9.11 and I also added Peabody Energy Corp (BTU) at $22.96.

First Trades of 2009

In keeping with my belief in the industrials and metals/mining I purchased shares of CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (CX), United States Steel Corp.(X), and General Electric Co.(GE).

This are my pure plays on the upcoming stimulus plan and infrastructure upgrade within the U.S., such as roads, bridges, buildings, etc. Each of these companies are well below their 52-week highs (shocking), but are also nice value plays with dividends attached.

Infrastructure Plays

President-elect Obama wants to begin the largest investment in U.S. infrastructure since the 1950's. This investment includes the creation, maintenance, and repair of roads and bridges. All this investment requires materials such as asphalt and cement, so I am going to do some more digging around for companies that would thrive in this realm such as Vulcan Materials (VMC) and Cemex (CX).
